Orientation is a three daynine hour prerequisite to enrollment in the Learning Center Program. During the orientation, students will take an assessment, set goals, and be given a class assignment that is specific to their needs. Upon completion of this class, students will have clear expectations of what it takes to successfully complete the program and a better understanding of other educational services provided by Cleveland Community College. To register, come to room 3107 in the Paksoy Technology Center during the hour before orientation. Please be sure to have your valid NC driver’s license or ID from the DMV, your social security card, and your transcript from the last public school you attended.

The AHS Program is a cooperative effort between Cleveland Community College and the local school system providing a tuition-free, mastery learning approach that allows for flexible scheduling to meet the individual needs of students. In order to meet program requirements, students must complete a total of 22 units with a passing grade on each unit. Units earned in the public high school may transfer and count toward the completion of the 22-unit requirement for graduation. English as a Second Language classes are for adults who are non-native English speakers. Instructional activities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening are designed to meet individual needs. Computerized instruction is available in the classroom to enhance ESL student progress. There are three levels of English as a Second Language: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Upon completion of the ESL program, students are eligible to continue in the Adult Basic Education or High School Equivalency programs.
