ACT National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)

The North Carolina National Career Readiness Certificate was developed by ACT, Inc. in 2006 to help efficiently match skills with jobs; which helps people find great jobs and companies find skilled workers. The NC NCRC is an industry-recognized, portable, research-based credential that certifies essential skills in Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information. The WorkKeys system is used by the NCRC to determine the skills needed for success in the workplace, these represent the skills require by over 85% of jobs.

Cleveland Community offers training for the ACT WorkKeys assessments through KeyTrain. KeyTrain is a computer-based, self-paced program that guides individuals through specific skills development. The software program provides pre-testing and skill-up to assure individuals are ready for WorkKeys assessment.

On average, it takes around 1 1/2 hours to complete pre-assessment. Our trained expert/advisor will give you your score immediately upon completion and together, you and your advisor, will plan your next steps. (View Pre-Assessment Test Schedule)

CCC is now offering the NCRC course online. The online class starts at the beginning of each month and end at the end of each month. Individuals are allowed to enter the class at any point during the month, however they must complete the required assignments by the end of the month or register again for the following month to complete the course. (Fee waived for individuals who are unemployed or underemployed)

CCC also offers a credit-by-credential for Humanity 115 for any student that scores a Gold or above on the NCRC Exam.

 

Earn Your NC NCRC in Three Simple Steps:

Step 1: PRE-ASSESSMENT TEST - Come to the Cleveland NC Works Office (Suite 6013) located on the first floor of the LeGrand Center on the Cleveland Community College campus. It is recommended everyone take the pre-assessment in order to determine current skill levels before taking the final exam. On average, it takes around 1 1/2 hours to complete pre-assessment. Our trained expert/advisor will give you your score immediately upon completion and together, you and your advisor, will plan your next steps.

Option 1: When: Monday 8:30am & 10:30am or Thursday 1:30pm & 5:30pm

Where: The LeGrand Center Room 6103 (No FEE)

Option 2: Register for the NCRC Online Class (Skip Step 2)

Where: The LeGrand Center Room 6102

(Fee waived for individuals who are unemployed or underemployed)

Step 2: Register for the NCRC Review Class: - The level scored on the pre-assessment will determine if you need to attend the CRC Lab located in the Cleveland NC Works Office to practice questions you are likely to see on the final exam. Many individuals who take the pre-assessment, spend a few hours in the lab "skilling up" or practicing questions in order to increase their proficiency to ensure they are prepared for the final exam.

Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday: 8:30am - 12:00pm

$180 FEE (Fee waived for individuals who are unemployed or underemployed)

 

Step 3: Take National Career Readiness Certificate Final Exam: - This test requires about 3 1/2 to 4 hours to complete and is given two (2) times each month. Space is limited so pre-registration is required. Your advisor at the Cleveland NC Works Office will help you get registered for the final exam. (View Final Exam Schedule)
