ATR 141 - Smart Grid Technology

This course introduces Smart Grid Technology concepts, emphasizing fundamentals of IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) integration and substation automation, including activity levels, operational, and non-operational data, with an overview of the International Electrotechnical Commission standard for electrical substation automation (IEC 61850). Topics include technical, design and sustainability issues for substation automation. Upon completion, students should be able to implement energy management concepts in public and private energy distribution systems. Prerequisite: ELC 231
