GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs skilled labor in the installation, operation, preventive maintenance, and repair of heating, cooling, and ventilating equipment, refrigeration equipment and related systems; does other work as required.

Work is performed under general supervision of Building Maintenance Division Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

  • Trouble-shooting and testing of electrical, digital, and pneumatic controls; (20%)
  • Performs journey level work on HVAC equipment and systems including chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, air compressors, heat converters, and building control systems; (40%)
  • Performs preventive maintenance actions as required on HVAC and refrigeration equipment, machines, water coolers, air conditioners, and other facility refrigeration equipment; (40%)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge and experience in working with HVAC equipment, chillers, and refrigeration; knowledge in electrical trouble-shooting digital and pneumatic controls; ability to read and understand blueprints, schematic, and wiring diagrams.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Four years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
NIMS Training required for: IS-700, IS-100, and IS-200 within twelve months of hire. Current certification by the EPA as a Universal Technician as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F. Possess an H-II certification by the N.C. Plumbing & Heating Board.
