Statement from the President

Cleveland Community College – Office of the President

Wednesday, June 3, 2020

Dear CCC Family,

Recent events continue to make clear that racial discrimination exists in America. It is hard to believe that even today in 2020, racism continues to plague our country in unspeakable ways.

My message today, first and foremost, is one of profound care and compassion for anyone who has been a target of racism. My heart aches for the pain and frustration that so many have felt and are feeling today.

As the leader of a critically important higher education institution in Cleveland County, I believe that silence is complicity. We must be willing to address the realities of racism and challenges we all face as a society. We must do this unified, with a sense of urgency and unwavering commitment to keep open lines of communication and strive for a deeper understanding of our fellow man. I plan to reinvigorate our Diversity and Inclusion Committee, working to achieve meaningful, positive, and lasting results throughout our College community.

This message also reaffirms Cleveland Community College’s commitment to serving every citizen of our community. We denounce racism, hate, violence, intolerance and injustice. We are agents of hope and change and are here to support each other and to provide a bright and prosperous future through the programs we offer. We can achieve this together and are committed to that effort for the community we serve.

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Jason Hurst

President
