Broaden Your Skills

Personal Enrichment courses are lifelong learning classes that help individuals broaden their talents, stimulate creativity, develop new skills, improve themselves, and just have fun.

This course is designed to prepare the student for entry-level positions in the auto body repair field. Students will be taught how to identify and describe the current types of body/frame construction; identify and describe the individual components of both conventional and unitized construction; evaluate vehicle damage through proper application of measuring and gauging equipment, and sequencing techniques; identify and differentiate between the types of equipment available for making effective frame and underbody repairs; and return vehicle to pre-accident condition. Upon completion students will have the knowledge base to perform hands-on repairs in the areas of non-structural and structural work. MIG welding, plastics and adhesives, refinishing, and other related areas.

The course prepares individuals for entry-level positions as automotive maintenance technicians who inspect, maintain and repair automobiles and light trucks that run on gasoline. This class will focus on brake repair and performance. Truck and passenger car brake performance, inspection and repair will be covered. Students are encouraged to work on their personal vehicles. Upon completion, students may sit for ASE industry-recognized credentials exams.

The Basic Handgun Course Academy*

This course provides students with a fundamental understanding of the handgun (semi-automatic pistol or revolver); its proper use, care, and storage. It will cover the following topics:

  1. basic emergency care for firearm injuries
  2. handgun terminology
  3. handgun use
  4. safety procedures while using and storing handguns
  5. federal and state laws for those who are, or are interested in becoming, a conceal carry holder
  6. 4-hour simulator-fire at CCC state of the art firearms simulator facility
  7. 8-hour live fire period of instruction at a local range

Maximum capacity: 10 students

*This course does not satisfy the NC requirements for Conceal Carry application.

Students are required to provide a local criminal background check.

Students will need to provide a pistol and 200 rounds of ammunition.

The Carbine Rifle Academy

This course provides students with a fundamental understanding of the carbine rifle, its proper use, care, and storage. It will cover the following topics:

  1. basic emergency care for firearm injuries
  2. carbine terminology
  3. carbine specifics
  4. safety procedures while using and storing carbines
  5. federal and state laws
  6. 8-hour live fire period of instruction at a local range.

Students are required to provide a local criminal background check.

Maximum capacity: 10 students.

Students must provide a rifle and 200 rounds of ammunition.

Students will master basic decorating skills using food coloring, brush embroidery and buttercream techniques. Course discussion may include sources of design inspiration. Students will also learn common cake and icing pairings, themed cake designs and the aesthetic appeal of different types of cake designs. Students will learn how to cover their cake boards and how to package their custom cakes properly.

Handgun Academy-Concealed Carry Permit Class

A state-approved, 8-hour concealed carry weapons class, includes:

  • Legal Block of instruction (state-mandated 2-hour block covering when you can and cannot carry, legal aspects to being armed and what is permitted, state law and traveling to other states, laws on CCW at educational property, and laws covering state and federal property)
  • Handgun safety
  • Handgun familiarization
  • Proper grip and sight alignment
  • Holster and concealment options
  • Home safety and protection of children
  • Interactions with law enforcement as a CCW permit holder
  • In-person instruction and range time
  • State written test and handgun qualification

This course satisfies the NC requirements for Conceal Carry application. Students are required to provide a local criminal background check.

Maximum capacity: 20 students per class

Students will need to provide a pistol and 50 rounds of ammunition.

Culinary Academy: Cooking Around the World is an 8-week live cooking class with Cleveland County’s most recognized professional chef, Jeanette Sun. Learn how to prepare traditional French, Italian, Asian, and Mediterranean dishes.

Come and bring a friend and learn how to prepare spectacular holiday meals with Chef Jeanette Sun, one of Cleveland County’s most experienced, respected and trusted professional chefs. Learn new techniques while having fun preparing new and festive recipe ideas. This year’s holiday meal could set the standard for years to come.

This class is here just in time for spring and summer! Students will gain the hands-on skills to design spring or holiday wreaths and bows.

Supply List for Class:

  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Spool of wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Scissors
  • Floral tape
  • Chenille stems (pipe cleaners)
  • Spring Wreath & Bow for Class

Materials:

  • Grapevine wreath or wreath of your choice
  • Floral accents
  • Silk flowers, filler flowers and floral picks
  • Greenery
  • Wide ribbon – wired
  • Spool of wire
  • Floral tape (optional)
  • Ribbon, mesh or raffia (optional)

This class is here just in time for the holidays! You will gain the hands-on skills to design holiday wreaths, centerpieces, garlands, and Christmas tree designs for your home or office space! You will receive a list of what supplies are needed when registering for the class.

 

 

This course introduces the students to machining operations as they relate to the gunsmithing industry. Topics include machine shop safety, measuring tools, blueprint reading, lathes, saws, milling machines, bench grinders, and layout instruments utilized in tool manufacturing.

Advanced Pottery Studio

This class is for proficient potters who are independent creators, with little self guidance needed. It is also a time for potters to continue building their skill set through time in the studio. There will be an instructor to assist students when they need it.

Beginner/Intermediate Pottery

Students will be taught the primitive techniques of hand-building. Objects will include: figures, tools and utilitarian pieces. Topics will include centering, using potter’s tools, throwing basic and intermediate forms, trimming, handling, glazing, and firing an electric kiln. Many decorative techniques will be explored as well. Students will need to bring pottery tools. The intermediate class is also for potters who are independent creators, with little self guidance needed. It is also a time for potters to continue building their skill set through time in the studio.
