The EMT Basic program introduces basic emergency medical care. Topics include preparatory, airway, patient assessment, medical emergencies, trauma, infants and children, and operations. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve North Carolina State or National Registry EMT Basic certification.

Cost

$180 paid at registration. Up to $180* for clinical tuition, uniforms, insurance and CPR card.
$200 estimated for books
Certification exam fee is separate and scheduled through nremt.org or ncems.org.
Financial assistance may be available through the Work Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) with application and approval. Financial assistance available to veterans.

Benefits

  • Preparation for the North Carolina or National Registry EMT Basic Certification
  • Earn course credit toward a two-year Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Science when combined with Paramedic course

Eligibility Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required. Current high school seniors may participate if they will be 17 years of age by the end of the course or within one calendar year of taking the class (students must be 17 years of age to take the certification test but will not receive their state certification until achieving 18 years of age)
  • Achieve 11th grade level or above on required reading test
