Cleveland Community College’s Paramedic Program Goal:  To prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.

The Paramedic program of Cleveland Community College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

Paramedic Program Admission Requirements

Minimum Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old to enroll. (Those under 18 should speak directly with the EMS Coordinator.)

Placement Testing includes assessments in reading, English language comprehension, Mathematical computation (post-secondary level). Contact EMS Coordinator for placement testing options available at CCC.

Alternatives to placement testing (upon transcript review by EMS Coordinator):

  • Proof of successful completion of college-level English or Math
  • A degree from an accredited institution

Current EMT Credential

  • Must have a valid and active EMT credential:
  • North Carolina EMT
  • NREMT
  • Or equivalent state EMS credential

Co-Requisite – Anatomy & Physiology Course
One of the following must be successfully completed:

  • EMS 3163: NC OEMS A&P – Offered at CCC
  • BIO 163: Basic A&P – Credit offered at CCC (discuss with EMS Coordinator)
  • BIO 165 & 166: A&P I & II (both required)
  • BIO 168 & 169: A&P I & II (both required) – Offered at CCC

Due to course complexity and prerequisites, walk-in registration is not allowed.

Paramedic Program Outcomes

CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited programs are required to meet outcome benchmarks each year. Outcomes include the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services, Paramedic test-taker data.
