Exam Room Procedures I

This course provides instruction in clinical examination room procedures. Topics include asepsis, infection control, assisting with exams and treatment, patient education, preparation and administration of medication, EKG, vital signs, and medical emergencies. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate competence in exam room procedures.

This course covers fundamental concepts in the content areas of science, technology, engineering, math and social studies through investigative experiences aligned with NC Foundations for Early Learning and Development. Emphasis is placed on exploring fundamental concepts, scope and sequence, and teaching strategies to engage each child through play and open-ended discovery in indoor/outdoor environments. Upon completion, students should be able to understand major concepts in each content area and implement developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, equitable, and inclusive experiences for young children.

This course introduces the basic principles of fabrication. Emphasis is placed on safety, measurement, layout techniques, cutting, joining techniques, and the use of fabrication tools and equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to perform layout activities and operate various fabrication and material handling equipment.

This course is designed to further develop the concepts within the three domains of the individual, healthcare, and nursing. Emphasis is placed on the concepts of oxygenation, sexuality, reproduction, grief/loss, mood/affect, behaviors, development, family, health-wellness-illness, communication, caring interventions, managing care, safety, and advocacy. Upon completion, students should be able to provide safe nursing care incorporating the concepts identified in this course.

This course will present the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfy the requirements of NFPA 1001: Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications (2019 edition; Chapters 4 and 5) and NFPA 1072: Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications (2017 edition; Chapters 4, 5, 6.2, and 6.6). In addition, this series will include the Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) training, the Mayday and Firefighter Safety and Survival segments, and the Emergency Medical requirements found in Chapter 6 of NFPA 1001: Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications (2019 edition). This course is consistent with the most current NC Fire and Rescue Commission guidelines; contact the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) for details.
