Aural Skills II

This course provides a foundation in aural skills. Emphasis is placed on the development of sight singing and ear training skills in diatonic melody, diatonic harmonic progression, and rhythmic patterns. Upon completion, students should be able to fluently read music in treble and bass clefs; utilize any solmization system while sight singing simple diatonic melodies; identify elementary diatonic chord progressions; perform rhythms in simple and compound meters; and dictate diatonic melodic, diatonic harmonic, and advanced rhythmic patterns. This course has been approved under the CAA and ICAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

This course provides advanced aural skills training in diatonicism, and basic aural skills training in chromaticism. Emphasis is placed on the development of sight singing and ear training skills in complex rhythmic patterns, diatonic melodies and harmonies, and basic chromaticism. Upon completion, students should be able to utilize any solmization system while sight singing diatonic melodies with functional and non-functional chromaticism, fluently read music in multiple clefs in addition to treble and bass, identify modulations, perform complex rhythmic patterns in various meters, and dictate tonal melodies and harmonies including chromaticism. This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA and ICAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

This course provides advanced aural skills training in diatonicism and chromaticism. Emphasis is placed on the development of sight singing and ear training skills in chromatic melodies, chromatic harmonies, and complex rhythmic patterns. Upon completion, students should be able to utilize any solmization system while sight singing melodies containing significant chromaticism; fluently read music in multiple clefs, including treble, bass, alto, and tenor; perform and dictate rhythmic patterns in irregular and changing meters; and dictate diatonic and chromatic melodies and harmonic progressions. This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA and ICAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

Auto Safety Inspection

This course is designed to meet the training and licensing requirements (initial and/or renewal) for the Vehicle Safety Inspection Program administered by the NC Division of Motor Vehicles, License and Theft Bureau. Upon completion, a student will understand the rules, regulations, and procedures for conducting a vehicle safety inspection; be able to inspect a vehicle properly; and be prepared to sit for the state certification exam.

The Automobile Academy taught by  Steve Williams, a retired Honda and BMW Sales and Service Manager with over 40 years of automobile experience, will teach you how to navigate choosing the perfect new or pre-owned car. Understand your maintenance schedule, save money on service, and get the most from your warranty. Learn how to check oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, replace windshield wipers, and inspect your tires. Find out how to confidently operate your security systems, modern electronic systems, and emergency systems Learn how to prepare your car for trade and maximize its value, how to find the perfect car, and learn insider information that will protect your purchase and what to expect from newer cars (i.e. Hybrids, electrics, and new internal combustion engines ICE). This class is for the buyer, both women and men, who want to learn the insider tricks on picking the best car and getting the best deal. Bring your personal car to this class for a hands-on experience.

Automotive Service Advising Academy

This course offers students the opportunity to earn workplace skills as an automotive service writer to obtain positions within tire and car repair shops or car dealerships. Topics that will be discussed and typical job duties of an automotive service writer include: Greeting customers and asking them to explain the car issue Writing up customer information Communicating customer information to a technician Inputting customer and vehicle information into a customer relationship management system and service database Writing and tracking service work Creating automotive work estimates by determining labor, supplies, and materials needed Billing clients and managing work transactions Responding to customer questions and communication during the service process Students will understand their roles as front-line communicators and collaborators since they must work with multiple parties to ensure the job is completed successfully.

Barber Academy I

This academy provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to pass the NC Board of Barber Licensing Exam, thereby equipping them for the professional work force. Each student will be empowered with confidence, professionalism, and enthusiasm to meet the demands of the ever-changing industry. Students will become socially competent members of their community and will have the knowledge and ethics consistent with responsible social and professional behavior. Barbering consists of hair cutting, shaving, trimming the beard, coloring the hair, applying hair tonics, permanent waving, mar celling the hair, facial and scalp massages, and treatment with oils, creams, lotions, or other preparations by hand or mechanical appliances.
