Cleveland Community College is committed to course quality. To increase the quality of online courses and positively impact student success, CCC adopted the Strengthening Online Learning (SOL) initiative.

“At Cleveland Community College, it is important that our students experience high-quality courses and training, regardless of the delivery method,” said Dr. Jason Hurst, president. “Online courses are difficult for some students. I’m proud of our faculty, who have taken on the challenge of creating online courses that set up our students for success.”

As a part of the SOL process, courses are rigorously reviewed against internal standards, called the SOLAR assessment, and reviewed externally by Quality Matters. Quality Matters is an independent organization that utilizes specially trained reviewers from colleges and universities across the country. Achieving Quality Matters certification is a major achievement for faculty that requires a lot of time and effort to be put into developing a quality course.

Recently, CCC became the leader among community colleges in North Carolina for course quality. With 37 certified courses and counting, CCC has more Quality Matters certified courses than any other two-year institution in the state. “By successfully completing the rigorous QM review process, our CCC faculty have demonstrated their ability to create an online learning environment that is accessible, engaging, and learner centered,” said Derek Ramsey, instructional design coordinator and Quality Matters coordinator at CCC.

CCC intends to continue providing a high standard for quality courses in its mission to drive student success and economic impact for individuals and businesses in our community through diverse education and training opportunities.
