Associate in General Education Degree (AGE) A10300

The Associate in General Education (AGE) curriculum is designed for the academic enrichment of students who wish to broaden their education, with emphasis on personal interest, growth and development. Coursework includes study in the areas of humanities and fine arts, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, and English composition. Opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and the basic use of computers will be provided. Through these skills, students will have a sound base for lifelong learning. Graduates are prepared for advancements within their field of interest and become better qualified for a wide range of employment opportunities. Many of the courses are equivalent to college transfer courses; however, the program is not principally designed for college transfer

Associate in Science Degree (AS) A10400

The Associate in Science degree shall be granted for a planned program of study consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit (SHC) of college transfer courses. Within the degree program, the institution shall include opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic computer use. The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) and the Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (ICAA) enable North Carolina community college graduates of two-year associate in science programs who are admitted to constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina or Signatory Institutions of North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities to transfer with junior status. Community college graduates must obtain a grade of "C" or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale to transfer with junior status. Courses may also transfer through bilateral agreements between institutions.

Within the degree program, the institution shall include opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic computer use. Students enrolled in the Audio and Video Production Technology curriculum will develop professional skills in audio, video, and related applications. Training will emphasize speech, writing, production planning, postproduction and distribution. Students will also study the evolution of media, revenue models, entrepreneurial opportunities, and governmental regulations. Hands-on training, troubleshooting, collaboration, and time management skills are essential to the instructional process. Upon successful completion, students are prepared to obtain audio and/or video-related employment.

The Automation Engineering Technology program is a course of study that prepares the students to use basic engineering principles and technical skills to develop, install, calibrate, modify and maintain automated systems. Includes instruction in computer systems; electronics and instrumentation; programmable logic controllers (PLCs); electric, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems; actuator and sensor systems; process control; robotics; and applications to specific industrial tasks. Graduates of this curriculum will be prepared for employment in industries that utilize control systems, computer hardware and software, electrical, mechanical and electromechanical devices in their automation systems.
